Green Baby Puree with Chicken
It’s not even officially summer yet and the calendar is already filling up – playdates, soccer, swimming, movies in the park, picnics, oh and maybe spending some time getting ready for this baby that is coming…very very soon.
The last thing that is on my mind, and I know on yours, is spending all night cooking for the little one. We need something easy, something delicious and something nutritious but most importantly we need something that requires very little time in front of the stove.
It’s a good thing this puree is really a one-stop-shop kinda meal and can be made in under 30 [mostly hands free] minutes. It is loaded with healthy green vegetables, lean protein and topped off with some apple sweetness. Mixed together you get a puree that is jammed packed with Calcium, Protein, Fiber, Vitamin A and Iron which is very important for healthy growth and development.
Everything you want your baby to love and eat in one easy puree.
It couldn’t get any easier then this.
I would recommend making and freezing a double or triple batch of this yummy puree for all of your busy summer nights ahead.

Hello again! I am now exploring how to make purees with meat and I’m curious what other meats you’ve made other than chicken. Do you have any tips that you could share? Have you ever baked chicken versus steaming it? I’ve never actually steamed chicken and I’m not even sure how to go about doing that. I love this recipe though and I want to work up to making it!
Thanks again for sharing all of these great recipes! Your site gives me the confidence to continue to prepare my little 6 month old girl with nutritious, homemade foods. 🙂 And you’ve helped me be more adventurous with my choices too!
Hello Katie (again:),
I am so glad you found my site!! So excited that you are becoming adventurous in what you are making for your little one! Cooking and eating should always be fun!!!
As far as meat goes, you can really add any sort of meat you have on hand (or cooked for yourself). Red meat, lamb, chicken, turkey, liver, fish, etc. Just make sure that it is tender enough to puree in a blender or food processor (will totally have to do a post about this). We eat mostly chicken, turkey and fish at my house so that is what I usually add to my purees. However when my husband cooks steaks or red meat, I would take a little bit and add it to my purees.
Steaming chicken is a new way to cook chicken for me as well, but is super easy and fast! Just place the chicken in a steamer pot over boiling water for 20 minutes, flipping over at 10 minutes. In this recipe I just added the veggies and fruit on top after the flip to save time.
Baked chicken is another great way to make a fast and easy cooked chicken breast. I usually do this more in the fall when I already have the oven on and want to make a quick batch of chicken for my own salads, baby purees or dinner. I just lightly season my chicken with salt and pepper, tightly wrap it in tin foil, place on baking sheet and bake for 30 to 45 minutes at 350-400 depending on what else I have going on in the oven. Make sure to test for doneness.
Hope this helps!
Hugs,
Michele
Can you freeze this in ice cube trays and then store in a ziplock bag?
Hello Adam,
Yes, you can totally freeze any of the purees in ice cube trays and then once frozen pop them out and store in a zip lock bag. I usually leave mine in the ice cube tray (mostly because I am lazy) until I am in the middle of making more puree and have no idea where my ice cube trays are:)

Michele
do you season the chicken in this recipe with salt and pepper also? in your pic it seems like it but not mentioned in the recipe. i completely failed at meat purees with my first born and now reattempting with my second. wish me luck! 🙂 also, at how many months do you usually introduce chicken?
Hello Phung,
You are right, the chicken does look like I seasoned it (I made this while pregnant so I think I might have used a piece of chicken my hubby cooked because I couldn’t touch the stuff without getting sick!!LOL!) but usually if I am making a combo puree with chicken, I would hold off on the seasoning the chicken and just season the entire puree. If making just a chicken puree you can season while making – I love using a pinch of himalayan salt and little lemon and basil! You can introduce baby to chicken anytime after 7 months.
Hope that sorta clears it up for you:)
xoxo, Michele
ps – i have some meat purees coming up on the blog. I always forget to add them in because I get so darn excited about the colors of fruits and vegetables! Nerd alert!
Hi! Do you peel the zucchini and apples or do you just steam them with the peel left on and then blend? Thanks?
Hello Renia,
I didn’t peel either of them. You can peel the apple if you want, but I don’t find it makes a difference in texture or taste.

Michele
What seasonings could be added to this recipe?
Sorry for the delay, you can add mint, parsley, cumin, coriander, chives or even oregano to this puree. Let me know how it turned out.
xo, Michele
I make this for my grandson and he absolutely ❤️ loves it. Making it again for his dinner tonight.
Love this!
Should the Apple be grated when adding to the steamer? Or cut into cubes?
Cut into cubes works best.
My baby loved this recipe she actually loves veggies but I’m not creative of what to do with the food or how to mix it. So tasty.
So happy to hear your little one loves this recipe!
