When you use avocados in your recipes do they have to be ripe?? I know their fat is super duper good but do they have to be ripe in order to get the most out of them?
Hello Angelica,
Ripe avocados are always a good idea. I try to use my when my finger indents just a tad into the skin. If you are pureeing them, you can use ones that are a little bit harder. As far as I know, the ripeness doesn’t affect the quality or quantity of the nutrients you are getting.

I doubled this recipe and it just barely yielded 10 oz. thought you might want to know. In other news, I’m obsessed with your site! Such great recipe ideas and food combinations. Thank you so much!
Thanks for letting me know! I am in the process of updating all of my recipe cards, so I will change it then.
I will also calculate my blender oz mark…. I thought it was accurate.

I recently stumbled upon your website and have made 6 puree recipes now for my 8 month old in the last 2 days. I am filling up my freezer! I am in LOVE with your website and everything that you have posted is so useful. I bought a book with recipes to make food but it does not compare to your recipes. I love how adventurous your recipes are and that you add herbs and spices. My husband is from India and we eat fun meals. Your recipes are a great introduction to fun foods and spices. Thank you!

I have some leftover quick oats. Can they sub-in here or is it best to feed baby only rolled oats?
Hello Jennifer,
Yes you can. I prefer rolled oats (aka old-fashioned oats) because they do have more nutrients for baby because they are not processed as much as quick oats, but either will work in this recipe.

Hi Michele, when do you add the avo? Do you add it to the blender then freeze it?
You add the avocado in at step 3. Sorry it isn’t that clear. And yes, I found with this recipe you can totally blend it up, freeze it and it turns out great when you defrost and serve.

I have lots of spinach in the garden (and I, of course, have the avocados for my egg yolk and avocado recipe). great combo.
So glad you like it!

Would this have an earthy taste? Since the oats and avocado are bland and the main taste would be coming from spinach is there any spices I can add to this you think ?
Love your website btw it’s my go to search every time I log on the web. 😊
This puree is very mild but I wouldn’t call it earthy, maybe more creamy;). You could totally add chives, cilantro or cumin for a savory approach or a splash of lemon or orange for a little zestiness.

Can I use infant oat cereal instead of old fashion oats??
Yes, but there are more nutrients in old-fashioned oats.

Thank you for this amazing recipe 👏🏻 Can I also add ginger , parsley , blueberries and homemade yogurt to it? Would it be too much for a 7 months old baby?
Maybe try a couple of those add-ins at a time and see the reaction – but they all sound great!
Great recipe, I would eat it myself. But my 9 months old is refusing. I have been it great trouble to give her veggies since she was 6 months. She wouldn’t eat unless it is sweetened with banana, apple, berries etc. Any idea how to make her it such nutritious food?
You could add in a little banana or apple puree into this recipe to sweeten it up a little for her.
Can I use steel cut oats?
Yes you can, but you will need to double the liquid amount and cooking time.
can i use instant oatmeal oats ?
Yes, instant oats would work in this recipe.
