Homemade Baked Cheese Crackers for Baby & Toddler (no rolling!)
These Whole Grain Cheese Crackers are a great baked alternative to the packaged kind. These 5-ingredient crackers are easy to make – no rolling involved! Great for babies and toddlers, 9 months and up!
These snack-able whole grain crackers are going to be a big hit with your baby or toddler. These crackers are a perfect mix of crunchy and chewy, which makes it easy for baby and toddler to eat (with or without teeth!).
With no rolling involved, these wholesome crackers are also a snap to make. No one wants to spend hours in the kitchen making crackers that might end up on the floor!
Plus, these cheese crackers are so good that you will want to sneak some handfuls! Just don’t let your toddler see you:)

COOKING WITH KIDS
You can easily have your kids help you make these cheese crackers.
TODDLERS
- Toddlers can help measure and put the ingredients into the blender.
- They can help put the lid on the blender and push start. Note: make sure to talk about not touching the blender blade while making something in the blender, as it can be sharp.
- They can help roll the dough out.
- Toddlers can place the dough on the baking sheet before baking.
KIDS
- They can pick out and measure all of the ingredients and place in the blender. Note: make sure to talk about not touching the blender blade while making something in the blender, as it can be sharp.
- Kids can help roll the dough out cut the dough into discs.
- They can place the dough on the baking sheet before baking.

Ingredients
- 6 oz or 2 cups cheddar cheese shredded
- 3/4 cup whole wheat flour or white whole wheat flour
- 1/4 cup butter
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1-2 tablespoons milk or water
Instructions
- In a food processor, place the cheese, butter, flour, salt and garlic powder and pulse until chunky.
- Add in 1 tablespoon of liquid and turn on the food process until a dough ball forms. If ball isn’t forming, add another tablespoon of liquid.
- Dust a work surface with a little flour. Roll the dough into a ball and then divid it into 4 balls. With your hands roll each ball into a 1/2 inch rope. Wrap the 4 ropes in saran wrap and place in the freeze for 45-60 minutes or until just hard to the touch.
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Spray a baking sheet with cooking spray.
- Take out the dough ropes and slice into 1/4 inch slices. Place on baking sheet and press a dot in the middle of each cracker with a wooden skewer or a fork.
- Bake for 11-13 minutes or just golden brown. Let cool completely on the baking sheet, they will continue to crisp up as they cool.

Seriously, thank God for people like you who make these recipes for kids. My 1 year old will pretty much only eat cheese, so these are right up her alley! These are so easy to make which is the most important thing ever when you have a toddler to chase around. Thank you for this recipe. It will be forever saved!

My baby has been obsessed with these since he was 10 months old (I used no salt)! I even add a little more salt and make them for myself and my husband sometimes and they are always gone within a day.

Can these cheese crackers be frozen after cooking??
Due to the homemade nature of these crackers, I don’t think they would freeze well. I recommend storing them on the counter in a loosely closed container (not airtight) so they don’t get soggy.
Loved these! Very tasty and even I had a hard time not eating them all before my kid got some.
I used a 3.5 cup food processer and it worked but would probably be easier to mix up if I had a larger one. This is a recipe for the books.

Is freezing mandatory? Can I directly bake them?
I have found that freezing the rolls helps you be able to cut them better.
Could you use mozzarella instead of cheddar? Or any suggestions on any other lower sodium cheeses that would work?
I actually haven’t tried using mozzarella before for this recipe. So if you try it please let me know how it turns out.
Does if have to be normal flour? I want to make these for my son but hes newly diagnosed gluten intolerant so still figuring out gluten free flour ratios etc.
You can use any gluten-free one-for-one flour in this recipe as well.

These are very tasty, but I am worried that my toddler will choke on it because it is quite crispy. I try to serve crackers that I can easily crumble between my fingers, but I can’t with this one. I wonder if I overcooked them? Should they crumble easily? I had them in the oven for 11 minutes at 350 and they were golden.
Usually, mine are slightly crispy but still soft in the middle. I am wondering if you overcooked them. Also, what flour did you use?
Can a blender be used instead of a food processor
I haven’t tried using a blender for these, but if you try it make sure to scrape down the sides often. If you try it, let us know how it turns out.

Yes, these work with any block cheese (or shredded block cheese) you prefer. Or a mixture of a couple of different kinds.
Is there a way to make these with out the food processor?
I haven’t tried it would the food processor, but you could try mixing it by hand. The cheese might not be incorporated as much, but I think it should still work.

Yes, you can! I would cut them into shapes and then store them in a tubberware container before cooking as directed. Love that you are meal prepping for your baby! I am going to be doing some family prep posts soon!
