Spinach Smoothie
My goal – to make a smoothie that your baby will love!
The result – this green smoothie filled with delicious ingredients that my own baby’s loved!
Made with 7 easy ingredients—spinach, avocado, mango, bananas, oats, chia seeds, and coconut milk—this flavorful smoothie is naturally sweetened and is a perfect way to introduce your baby to the world of smoothies.
I actually made this recipe for both you and baby! The idea is that you can pour baby their portion of the smoothie into their sippy cup, and you will still have enough leftover smoothie for a small snack/treat/lunch/meal for you;)

Instructions
- Spinach – fresh baby spinach works but frozen works in a pinch
- Avocado
- Mango – fresh or frozen mango
- Banana – fresh or frozen bananas work well
- Oats – old-fashioned, rolled or instant oats
- Chia Seeds
- Coconut Milk – can also use any plant-based milk or regular milk
Let’s Get Blending

Get the recipe: Baby’s First Spinach Smoothie
Ingredients
- 1/2 banana
- 1/4 avocado, peel removed
- 1/4 cup spinach, packed
- 1 cup frozen mango
- 1 tbsp old-fashioned oats
- 1/4 tsp chia seeds
- 1/4 cup canned coconut milk full fat variety
- 3-4 ice cubes
- ½-1 cup water
Instructions
- Place all of the ingredients and 1/2 cup of water into a blender.
- Blend the ingredients together by using the smoothie function on your blender or high speed for at least 60 seconds. If the smoothie is too thick, then add the additional water to the smoothie and blend until incorporated. For most babies, you will want a pretty thin smoothie so they can suck it through the straw. Save the extra thick smoothies until they get a little older.
- Pour smoothie into a sippy cup and enjoy!

Can I substitute coconut milk with water?
Hi Maddy! The coconut milk is thicker than water so you may end up with a watery smoothie that isn’t as creamy as this one is as written.
This sounds delicious, but where on earth did the calorie/nutritional information come from? A 14 oz smoothie with 101 kcal? No way. 1/2 banana 45, 1/4 avocado 40, spinach 20, a cup mango 100, 1 T oats 18 1/4 cup canned coconut milk ALONE has 100 calories in it. This smoothie is at least 300 calories, if not more. What am I missing here?
My apologies Sharon and my thanks for bringing this big typo to my attention. It is now corrected. It should read 1 4oz smoothie. xo, Michele
What brand of coconut milk do you buy?
How much should I serve for 8 months old
4-6 ounces is a normal serving for babies under a year – but if they are drink it all, you can offer more.
I’m sorry, but why on earth would you give a baby raw grains??? Or anyone for that matter, but especially not a vulnerable infant with a developing gut.
Do you soak your chia seeds before blending them? I assume they function somewhat as a thickening agent?
Nope, I just tossed them into the blender with the rest of the ingredients. They blend right up!
We dont have a smoothie blender-we have a handheld blender (or immersion blender), do you think this would blend up the little chia seeds?
I haven’t tried this, but I think it will work if you give it enough time to process the little seeds. Let us know how it goes. Also – you can leave out the chia seeds if you prefer.
Is there another fruit we can use instead of mango? Not a crowd pleaser in our home, but I like this recipe!
I haven’t tried making this without the mango, but I think you could try adding in a whole banana or subbing in frozen pineapple in place of the mango.
Can I use coconut milk from a carton? Like the Silk brand?
Yes!
How many ounces would you say this recipe makes?
2 toddler servings
can this smoothie be put into pouches to be frozen and drunk later?
I haven’t tried it, but I don’t see why not. I think as long as you shake the pouch before serving, it should work great. If you try it out, can you please let us know how it works?
Thanks!
