Hot cocoa with turmeric, cinnamon and vanilla – your cold weather life will never be the same again!
I teased this Healthy Hot Turmeric Cocoa last year, but never got around to posting it. That was a serious fail on my part! And boy did you guys let me know it:). I got emails in July asking for this recipe.
#youwin here it is!
It is beyond my girls favorite warm drink for me to make them on cold winter days when we get back from playing in the snow and are all half frozen solid.
Warmed milk with rich chocolate and a hint of warming spices
It’s a very simple 7-ingredient recipe, most of which you probably have in your panty and fridge – some sort of milk (cow, almond, coconut, soy, hemp, etc), cocoa powder, maple syrup, turmeric powder, cinnamon, vanilla extract and a pinch of pink salt all whisked together in a small sauce pan over medium-low heat until just warmed.
Takes less then 5-minutes from start to finish!
You can serve it by itself, with some mini marshmallows or if your feeling extra then you can serve it with a dollop of coconut whipped cream.

Wow, I never thought hot cocoa could be healthy! I’m so excited about this because I live in Idaho, where we need all the hot cocoa we can get.
I use it a lot to warm up my little ones after playing out in the snow, but I always feel bad because it’s so much sugar! And I feel bad for the same reason when I drink it too! I’m trying to be healthier too and this is a great start.
Thank you!

Can I use honey instead of maple syrup
Totally!
37g of sugar is “healthy”?! Sorry but I’d never make this for my toddler.
This recipe has roughly 1 tbsp per serving of natural maple syrup as the sweetener but you can add less maple syrup to this recipe if you don’t want it as sweet. Don’t forget that milk also has natural sugar in it (roughly 7 grams in a half of cup).
