There is something so simple and easy breezy about being able to make baby food right when your little one is giving you one of those ‘you better be doing something in that kitchen that involves making me food’ looks.

You just cut, slice and smash and wah-lah, you have a great chunky puree ready to be devoured.  How wonderful is that!?!

Smash and Serve!
SMASH and Serve!!
SMASH and SERVE!!!

On a wooden cutting board we have one side slices of pear, cantaloupe and avocado and the other side is them smashed with a fork.

This will be my fight song, accompanied of course with a full marching band and choreographed dance, for my next little one, especially when I am on the go with 2 little kids. Toss a cut avocado, melon or pear into the diaper bag and then give the big chunks to Little Miss E and smash some up for the littler one for a perfect healthy snack.

It’s not weird that I am already dreaming about what I am going to give my un-born baby, is it? Yes. Hmm…I will have to deal with that.

On a wooden cutting board is 3 small glass jars filled with the smashed baby food - pear, avocado and cantaloup with their names next to them.

5 stars (1 rating)

Ingredients

  • 1 slice cantaloupe peeled
  • 1/4 avocado peeled
  • 1/8 pear peeled

Instructions

  • Take desired amount of food and place in a bowl or on a cutting board.
  • Take a fork and smash the food until soft and there are no lumps. The pear and melon will be slighly more chunky then the avocado.
  • If the melon or pear are not extremely ripe, then place desired amount in a small bowl and microwave for 30-60 seconds. This will make it easier to smash them together.

Notes

Age: 4 months and up
Yield: depends on how much you smash
Storage: best served the day of smashing
