What is the Best Puree to Introduce to My Baby First? Is There More then One Option?
I get this question a lot! A-Lot A-Lot! I guess no matter what we all want our baby to have the very best from the start. What I try to tell people, without confusing them even more, is there isn’t a single food that is going to make it or break it for your baby. What I like to do is give you the power to pick one of three different ways to start feeding your baby. You know your little one way better then I do and you are going to know which one of these options will work best for you and your baby.
All three of these options are well balance, wholesome and nutritious. The most important thing, in my opinion, is that you are starting your baby off right with homemade purees made with love from the very best produce you can find.
Start with one of the following and introduce another item after 3 days. It doesn’t matter which one you pick first:
- Smashed Avocado
- Smashed Banana
- Liver Pate
- Egg Yolk
After you have those 4 items down, you can move onto any single fruit or veggie puree that you wish.
Switching every other one method. You would start by introducing a fruit, then veggie, then a fruit again every 3 days (watching for allergies). I would suggest that bananas, avocados and egg yolks be in your top 10 introductory food items. Once you have introduced several different fruits and vegetables you can start making different combinations, adding meat purees or healthy fats for more flavor and variety.

One belief is that by starting them with fruit purees will make them have a sweet tooth when they older. Contrary to this belief, I have never seen this be true in person or read any conclusive research on the subject. But starting your little one on only veggie purees is still a great option.
Start by offering your baby a different vegetable puree every 3 days. At age 6 months, you can start to introduce meat purees and healthy oils into the veggie purees and by 8 months you can introduce fruit purees.
