This Blackberry + Kale + Apple Baby Food Puree is a fast and easy puree -mighty apples are steamed with dark and enticing blackberries and nutrient rich baby kale.

  • 2 apples [galafuji or pink lady], cored and chopped
  • 1 cup blackberries
  • 1 cup baby kale packed
  • 1/2 cup water reserved, breast milk or formula

  • In a medium saucepan, bring 2 inches of water to a boil over medium heat. Place the apples, blackberries and kale into a steamer basket, in that order, and steam for 10 minutes. Reserve cooking water. Let cool slightly.
  • Transfer the apples, blackberries and kale into a blender or food processor and puree for 1-2 minutes, adding 1/4 cup of liquid at a time, until you have reached your desired consistency.

Age: 6+ months
Yield: 8 ounces
Note on Kale: I find that baby kale is less intense for baby puree, but you can also use regular kale if you have it on hand. If using regular kale, for best results trim stem and stalk.
Note on Apples: I would recommend using organic apples as apples are on the dirty dozen list.
Storage: Fridge – store in an airtight container in the fridge for 3-4 days. Freezer – can be frozen for up to 4 months (this and this are my favorite freezer storage containers).
