This Green Mint Chocolate Smoothie is filled with healthy whole foods such as a banana, spinach, chia seeds and spiced up with a little mint and a few chocolate chunks. Makes for a perfect afternoon snack for the kids or a beyond yummy on-the-go breakfast!

Ingredients 

  • 1 ripe banana
  • 2 cups spinach firmly packed
  • 1 cup almond milk
  • 1/4 tsp peppermint extract or three mint leaves
  • 1 tbsp chia seeds
  • 1 scoop vanilla protein powder or 1 additional banana (see notes)
  • 2-3 cups ice
  • 2 tbsp dark chocolate chips or carob chips

Instructions 

  • Place the banana, spinach, almond milk, mint, chia seeds, protein powder or additional banana and ice in a blender and run at high speed for 60-90 seconds.
  • Add in chocolate chips, pulse until they are in small pieces.
  • Serve and enjoy.

Notes

Protein Powder/Banana: this smoothie needs to be thickened up a little bit so I usually go with a scoop of protein powder, but you can also add an additional banana to the recipe. If using an extra banana, I would also recommend using 1 tablespoon of honey to sweeten it up.
Protein Powder Recommendation: I love this brand of protein powder because it is organic, soy free, dairy free and non-gmo but it also tastes great and my girls love it. I usually don't add protein powder into their smoothies but every once in awhile it a good thing to add in for a little extra protein, especially if we haven't been eating the healthiest that week. You can start introducing protein powder into kid's smoothies around 18-24 months of age.
