Spiced Pear Oat Baby Food Puree
Let’s get real for a minute. Actually let’s always be real on this blog. I have nothing to hide from you fabulous mommas. You are the people in this world that get me – you get my tired, frazzled, hungry even though I just ate, forgot to brush my teeth for the second day in a row, me! That’s why I love you guys. You guys get that I am just like you and trying my hardest to get everything done on my list. You get that I am not perfect and make lots of mistakes. You get that I don’t have a clue the difference between the words ‘then’ and ‘than’ [thanks Mary for setting the record straight, you will definitely have to do it again for me next week] because you get that my memory gets erased every night by some weird alien brain washing ship that passes over my house and I don’t remember anything from the pervious day or week or even month.
Life is real. These are the things that we would end up discussing over our 5th cup of coffee as we let our kiddos run amuck at the park or coffee shop as other moms gave us ‘that look’. Things that you should never do because I already learned from them the hard way for you –
- Do not under any circumstances leave a poopy diaper in your car overnight. It doesn’t matter that you meant to toss it in the trash as you unloaded your toddler, infant car seat, 5 layers of warm clothing that you did not need, tote bag of snacks including many items that are half chewed on and then spit out, diaper bag and 2 coffee cups. This diaper stowaway will stink up your car and it will not even feel sorry about it. The smell will linger for days and even after several rounds of fabreeze, you car will never be the same.
- Make sure to actually start the wash cycle of your washing machine. Put soap in, shut the door and push the darn START button. And then be sure to check that your clothes are actually wet before you move them into the dryer. Then pretty please make sure you look at them before you wear them again to check that they don’t have a thick layer of crusted on banana-glue on the sleeve as you sit there at a breakfast with friends. It might get weird if they didn’t have kids themselves.
- You might want to limit the amount of flax seeds you put in your smoothies. Flax seeds are good. Too many flax seeds are not. I had a very l-o-n-g walk home from the park the other day where I was stuck with both kids in a double stroller and I was in serious need of a bathroom. Any bathroom would have worked. It was not the moment to be picky. I would have even settled for a port-a-potty or a nasty gas station bathroom where the toilet tank lid is missing and there is a weird sticky mess on the floor. Anything. I had to go. Bad. And I am not talking about #1 here.
So there you have it. My life as of lately. Now it’s time for us to skip our 6th cup of coffee and go straight for a bottle of wine. You with me here?

I am obsessed with this recipe and my baby boo can’t get enough! Thank you so much for these delicious, creative, adventurous ideas. I love testing the temp of his food (read: sneaking bites for myself)!
Hello Natalie,
So glad you both liked it!!! And of course you have to test the temp of the food!.. I would say you have to test it every time you give baby a spoonful! 🙂

Fantastic recipe! I used ripe Bartlett pears from the family orchard and upped the oats (I like thick oatmeal & didn’t plan on pureeing). Holy cow! Amazing flavor from the cloves and caramelized pears! Mashed it up slightly with a spoon and my 11 month old was in oatmeal heaven! Can’t wait to make this all winter with our abundance of pears. Yum yum yum.
You have me drooling over here!!! Family orchard! Where are you and can I come and visit???
So glad you liked this recipe! I will have to bust it out now that it is almost fall!

Hi Michelle! Do you peel your pears before chopping or leave the skin on for this recipe?
I usually leave the skins on with both pears and apples (I’m just lazy:), but you can peel them if you want. I find they don’t affect the flavor at all and are easily pureed in a blender on high speed. Hope that helps.

Are you referring to whole clove or ground clove in this recipe. I added the quarter teaspoon of ground clove and it tasted super strong. Love love your recipes by the way!
Hi, I used this recipe to make my daughter’s first ever solid breakfasts and she loves it. I have just made a second batch but with coconut milk as well as water from soaking the dates. Very nice and it’s adding another source of goodness to this recipe. I couldn’t fit it all into my ice cube trays so I eat what didn’t fit and I was really happy with the flavour. a great recipe. Hi, ground cloves or whole cloves? Thank you
ground cloves
Can you use maple sugar instead of dates ?
Maple syrup would work for older babies and toddlers.
Hey can you please suggest some savory recipes for my 15 month old. He hates sweet and m running out of breakfast options.
Have you tried our egg cups, spinach waffles or cheesy egg rollups? I also have a post for 74 toddler breakfasts that might spark some ideas
Can you use baby oatmeal cereal instead of the oats?
I think if you simmer a few chopped pears with the spices and then add in the made baby cereal right before serving it would work. Baby cereal soaks up a ton of liquid so I am afraid if you add it in while cooking, it will get very thick.
I was skeptical this would be too potent for baby bc of the cloves, but she loved it!
So glad she likes it!
I tried this with my son and He nlooooves it..Thank you so much
So glad he loves this!!
My 7 month daughter LOVED this (although I forgot the clove on the second batch). She absolutely enjoyed having this. Very happy baby. PS: I ran out of regular oats and had to resort to mixed oats that I had in my pantry. The brand is The Soulfull Project hearty grains and seeds (has a mix of rolled oats, oat bran, red quinoa, flaxseed, chia seed).
So glad your daughter loved this! Love your oat and seed mix!
My daughter loved this. Your website has been such a blessing! I bought your book recently and I love every single recipe. I would have never been able to come up with such creative recipes. My daughter is lucky that your site exists!
I am so glad your daughter is loving all of the recipes! That’s for following along ♥️
Yummy!!!
My baby loved this. Great to have frozen for a quick and healthy breakfast.
So happy to hear that your baby loved these spiced oats! It’s such a good recipe for fall! Thanks for the review and star rating.
