Pear, Chard + Goji Berries Baby Food Puree

This past weekend, we had our first blind baby date.

It was actually my first blind date of any kind which led me to be slightly nervous and awkward. My parents met a dad and his baby girl, whose is a month younger and has the same name as my little girl, on a plane where the proceeded to steal her and play with her for some of the flight. The family had recently relocated to Denver and lives fairly close to us, so I thought it was only right to show them around my town a little bit. We got some coffee and had made our way to the art museum where our girls spent the next two hours drawing, playing and making a mess. It was a perfect morning of getting to know a new family while running around after the littles. Turns out, they are some of the friendliest, caring and energetic people I have met in a long time. I think the blind baby date went off with a smash and hopefully we will see them again for another play date soon.

Have you ever been on a blind baby date? I have been to many group playdates where I didn’t know anyone but never to a one on one date. It was completely fun just putting yourself out there like that.

The date was a nice surprise.

Kinda like how this puree is a great surprise.

I made this puree on a whim when I wanted to get some super food chard into my little one without having to fight her on eating lettuce, because let’s get real, there are not many toddlers that will eat lettuce at this point in their little lives. Combined with sweet pears, the chard disappears into the puree, but the nutrients stay and my little one slurped away on her reusable pouch like she is getting the worlds best dessert.

Nutritional information about this puree.

But the puree needed something else.

Something that would kick it up another notch.

I had some cult inspired Goji Berries hiding in the back of my cabinet waiting to be used. I had tried to give them straight to the kiddo before but their overpowering exotic flavor was a little much for her to handle. So plumped up with water and pureed with the pear and chard was an easy way to get them into her little mouth.

No coaxing needed.

Chard and Goji berries are superfoods but can have sharp flavors for little mouths – but when paired with sweet pears, they turn into a magically delicious baby food combination!

Ingredients

  • 2 pears, core pear, peeling is optional, roughly chop
  • 1 leaf chard, stem removed, roughly chopped
  • 1 tsp goji berries
  • 1/2 cup water

Instructions

  • Bring 2 inches of water to a boil in a medium saucepan. Add the pears and then the chard into a steamer basket, in that order. Place the steamer basket over the boiling water, cover, and cook for 7-10 minutes or unitl pears are tender and chard is wilted. Let cool slightly. Reserve steamer water.
  • Meanwhile, add the goji berries to a small bowl and cover with hot water. Let soak for 10 minutes. Drain.
  • Transfer the pears, chard and goji berries to a blender or food processor and puree for 1-2 minutes or until completely smooth, adding reserved water in 1/4 increments if needed.
