Plum, Pear + Lavender Baby Food Puree
It got hot again. Summer isn’t over with me yet and I
couldn’t be happier, except that the heat isn’t helping with the fact that I am
stressing out in the inside. Heat on Heat. Not good for my internal system.
Everything is changing in my life. I am leaving my corporate
job to follow what I am truly passionate about [Cartwheels. Rainbows. Fist
pump]. Having a single income, no health insurance and no certain future
[Panic. Panic. Panic]. As much I know in my gut that this is the right path for
me to take, it doesn’t make it any easier to leap off the cliff where there is
not bottom in sight.
Stressful, I know.
I’m in my backyard which used to get a nice amount of shade
from my neighbors trees until they cut them all down last week. The house and
trees are gone. Just gone.
Not so sad, because neither one of them were that nice.
But sad, because the house was once a beautiful turn of the
century Victorian and those trees once shaded me.
Now I’m hot and panicking. Not a pretty sight. Then I look
over and my lavender plant is dying.
Sigh.
Clock is ticking on my wee babes naptime. Only a couple of
minutes left before she wakes up and starts crying. Then there will be drool,
and some more crying and probably some fussing to go with it. The babes is
getting her k9 today and it’s really not fun. For either of us. Silly me for
thinking that it would be the easiest of the teeth to come in, I mean it is the
most dagger like tooth we have, wouldn’t it just come right out of the gums.
Nope, not a chance.
I need something to calm me down. Something that isn’t too
sweet or tart or fruity. Something that might just transport us both to a world
of Zen. A world where we have all of our teeth, all my plants are alive and kicking and
there is a nice white fluffy cloud to give me a moment of shade.
Plum + Pear + Lavender Recipe
4 Organic Pears
4 Organic Plums
1 tbsp dried Lavender
Roughly peel pears and cut off of core. Cut plums off of their seeds. Go ahead, have a couple of chunks.
Take lavender and put in paper tea filter. Don’t have or even know what a paper tea filter is, I mean why would you? Only crazy people strain their own tea. Who me?
You can use any metal tea filter or put in small fine mesh strainer and rest on top of fruit mixture. Just make sure it is resting on top of fruit so it can soak up all lavender flavor.
Toss everything into a medium pot and cook for 15-20 minutes on medium heat. You will know it is done when you can easily cut into the fruit with a spoon. Take lavender filter contraption out of the pot and discard. Let cool for a couple of minutes. Pour fruit into food processor or blender and blend until smooth. Take big spoon and dig in. Go ahead. Take a couple of bites and let the calmness wash over you.
Makes roughly 40 ounces.

Hi Michele! I absolutely love your website! it is my go to place to find new recipes for my recently introduced to solids baby….and with the solids came constipation! arrgghh! would this recipe be good for constipation since it has pears and plums? also when do you start leaving the skins on? my baby is 7months now. oh and can I freeze this puree?

Let’s see, yes constipation is totally normal when introducing solids. This puree would be amazing for constipation relief!! If you don’t have lavender on hand, you can always do a pinch of cinnamon or ginger in this recipe to help with digestive issues.
I usually leave all the skins on my fruit because I have a high speed blender that takes care of it for me. If you don’t have a high speed blender you probably should peel everything for a couple more months.
Yes, you can freeze this puree. Will update recipe. 4 months in freezer, 4 days in fridge.
